COURSE OVERVIEW
 
AP Government is equivalent to an introductory college level American Government course.  The demands of the course are rigorous and demanding.  In AP Government, students will research and explore the make up and functions of the United States Government and the American Political System.  Various instructional methods, including traditional instructions, virtual learning, analysis of documents, and stimulated problem solving are components of this course.  The goals of the course will be twofold:  first, to provide students with a working knowledge of American government and Politics, which will serve them later in life.  Second, to prepare students to take the U.S. Government and Politics Advanced Placement Exam.
 
 
 
 
Six Major Content Areas
 
AP Government course will focus on the following areas:
 
  • Constitutional foundation and philosophies of the United States Government.
  • American citizen's political beliefs and behaviors.
  • Civil Rights and Liberties
  • Political parties, interests groups and the media.
  • Government institutions, (the Presidency, Congress, Courts and the Bureaucracy.
  • Public Policy
  • Civil liberties and rights.
